The Manley 40176 is a 25-piece pack of replacement abrasive cones designed for use with the Manley 40174 Valve Spring Chamfering Tool. These cones are the consumable component of the chamfering system, allowing engine builders to continue chamfering valve spring inside diameters without interruption.

Proper ID chamfering of valve springs is a critical step in high-performance engine building. Chamfering the inner diameter of the valve spring provides additional clearance and distributes stress along the flat surface of the retainer step, rather than concentrating it at the corner radii — extending retainer life and improving overall valvetrain durability.
