Product Description

Unorthodox Racing Adjustable Cam Gears are the pinnacle of adjustable cam gear technology. All the right engineering, giving you pure reliable performance! Our gears set the industry standard for craftsmanship. Each gear is CAD designed and CNC’d from lightweight 6061-T6 billet aluminum. Each gear is adjustable in one degree increments to a maximum of +/- 10º (advance/retard). Any adjustment of the gear/s more than 10 degrees is useless, you may as well just skip a tooth during installation! Engine damage can happen to some cars after as little as 4 degrees. The engraved timing marks are accurate to within one (1) minute of a degree 60 minutes in a degree)! There is no such thing as having to send our gears to machine shop to be re-indexed properly! Other aftermarket gears can be off by as much as 1 or 2 degree!

Machining for optimum component fit, the inner and outer cam gear sections, is critical with adjustable gears. Any free play between the inner and outer sections (enough to cause a clicking when they are loose and you try to move the inner section from side to side) will cause the hardware to come loose no matter how much they are tightened. Our extra care in the machining process guarantees you our gears will not come loose as long as they are tightened as per the torque specifications in our instructions.

Tooth profiles are also extremely important when machining a gear. Long term reliability of the teeth and timing belt are directly related to the shape of the tooth profile. Our tooth profile matches the OEM specification exactly for each gear we make. The outer toothed section of our gears are hard anodized, to prevent any wear from the timing belt. We also chose the black finish because of the great contrast against our engraved timing marks.

Don’t let anybody try to fool you into believing that clear hardcoat is better than black hardcoat. The fact is that black hardcoat will out live your car and your engines useful service life even after multiple engine rebuilds or years or racing. So in the end even though clear is slightly harder than black hardcoat the extra hardness will not matter! Its just another marketing gimmick other brand use to trick you into buying their inferior gears instead of buying ours. This is a great example of the bait and switch. A number of other brands have also recently (2004-5) converted to our 5 bolt locking pattern we developed 7 years ago. They say “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.”

Horsepower gains can vary widely depending on what has been done to the vehicle. Gains from 5 to 20 horsepower can easily be seen. Our instructions have recommended settings for your specific vehicle. We recommend going to a dyno for fine tuning after our recommended base adjustment settings have been made. Our Ultra Series gears are available in polished finish only.
