ARP 234-4322 High Performance Cylinder Head Stud Kit
The ARP 234-4322 cylinder head stud kit delivers professional-grade engine fastening performance using premium 8740 chrome moly steel construction. Designed for high-performance and racing applications, these 12-point head studs provide superior clamping force and reliability compared to standard head bolts.
Premium 8740 Chrome Moly Construction
Each stud is manufactured from aircraft-quality 8740 chrome moly alloy and heat-treated to 200,000 psi tensile strength. ARP employs a vertical rack heat-treatment process that ensures complete and uniform heat penetration throughout each fastener, resulting in consistent material properties and exceptional strength characteristics.
Precision Manufacturing Process
Following heat treatment, every stud undergoes centerless grinding through multiple precision passes to achieve near-perfect concentricity. This exacting process ensures that cylinder heads and gaskets align properly during installation. The threads are rolled after heat treatment rather than before, which increases fatigue strength by approximately ten times compared to pre-heat-treat threading methods.
Engineered for Optimal Clamping Force
Select studs in the kit feature strategic undercutting on shorter fasteners to equalize stretch characteristics across all studs. This design provides more uniform clamping force and compensates for head gasket compression, helping prevent gasket failures and ensuring optimal engine sealing under extreme conditions.
Key Features
- Premium 8740 chrome moly steel rated at 200,000 psi tensile strength
- 12-point head design with wide-area flange for easy access
- Centerless ground for precise concentricity and perfect alignment
- Threads rolled after heat treatment for superior fatigue resistance
- Includes hardened parallel-ground washers for even load distribution
- Reduced wrenching head allows cylinder head service without valve train removal
- Cold-forged construction ensures molecular integrity
Installation Benefits
Studs offer significant advantages over traditional head bolts for performance applications. Since studs install finger-tight into the block and use separate nuts for clamping, they stretch purely along the vertical axis when torqued. This eliminates the torsional stress that occurs with bolts, which twist while being torqued. The result is more accurate torque readings, consistent clamping force, and easier engine assembly. Always re-torque fasteners after initial engine break-in to compensate for head gasket compression.
Note: ARP recommends using their Ultra-Torque fastener assembly lubricant for accurate torque values and optimal performance.
