What Is a Harmonic Balancer Puller?

A harmonic balancer puller is a specialized engine service tool designed to safely remove the harmonic balancer — also known as the crankshaft pulley or vibration damper — from the front of an engine's crankshaft. Because the harmonic balancer is press-fit onto the crankshaft snout, it requires significant, evenly distributed force to remove without causing damage. Using the wrong tool, such as a general-purpose gear puller or a pry bar, risks gouging the crankshaft, bending the balancer hub, or cracking the rubber isolator that sits between the inner and outer rings of the balancer itself.
