Metra IBMS-5 Clear View Mercury Tilt Switch

The Metra IBMS-5 is a clear view mercury tilt switch designed for automotive security systems, lighting controls, and custom installation applications. This universal switch uses a sealed glass enclosure containing a small amount of liquid mercury that moves with gravity to open or close an electrical circuit when tilted at different angles.

Key Features:

• Clear housing allows visual confirmation of mercury movement and switch operation
• Mercury-based design provides reliable, non-eroding electrical contacts
• Universal compatibility for use with car alarms, trunk lighting, hood lights, and custom applications
• Simple two-wire installation with negative ground trigger
• Opens and closes circuit as switch is tilted in opposite directions
• Detects angle changes based on internal mercury mechanism movement

The IBMS-5 is commonly used in car alarm tilt sensor arrays to detect when a vehicle is being jacked up or towed, triggering the alarm system. It's also ideal for trunk and hood lighting applications where the switch activates lights when the panel is opened to a specific angle. The clear view design makes installation and troubleshooting easier by allowing visual verification of mercury position and contact status.

Note: Mercury switches contain liquid mercury, a toxic heavy metal. Handle with care to avoid breaking the glass enclosure. This product is intended for use in vehicles with standard 12V negative ground electrical systems.
